Marion "Teflon" Barry, made a public apology yesterday for his "poor judgment" in awarding a city contract to his girlfriend.
Like a typical politician, he was content with his underhand dealings until the heat turned up enough and forced him to say something.
The television cameras caught some interesting comments on tape yeaterday after the apology. One resident thought that Barry deserved a break since he was honest enough to admit to the wrong doing. Another resident believed that Barry is a victim and people have been "out to get him" for years.
With endorsements like that, its really no wonder he keeps getting re-elected.

Virginia Governor agrees with being able to carry concealed in restaurants
In an interview with WTOP radio yesterday, Virginia's Governor, Bob McDonnell stated that he agrees with a bill which would allow permit holders to carry concealed in restaurants where alcohol is served.
This will come as welcome news to the area's Personal Protection Specialists who have long had to lock their firearms in their vehicle before accompanying clients into restaurants.
It will still be illegal to consume alcohol while carrying concealed and rightfully so. Protestors of the bill will most likely claim that this will be a dangerous move and will mean more people will carry their firearms into restaurants and bars.
The fact of the matter is, there are those who are already breaking the law - such as Plaxico Burress. They are probably the same ones who would carry concealed and consume alcohol. That will be the responsibility of law enforcement officers to detect and prosecute them.
This law will benefit the responsible law abiding segment of the population, such as those of us who need to use firearms in connection with our livelihoods. It will also aid those who are legally entitled to carry a concealed weapon and due to particular circumstances, have a legitimate need to protect themselves.

EU foreign ministers condemn use of false passports by "hit team" in Dubai
EU Foreign Ministers condemned the use of stolen Eurpoean identities and passports by the killers of the senior Hamas official in Dubai last month.
Although there is no concrete evidence to support the claims, most reports are blaming the professional hit on the Israeli intelligence agency; Mossad. The Chief of Police in Dubai claims to be 99% certain that Israel was behind the assassination.
It took the Dubai authorities very little time to produce a well captured video log of the movements of the 11 suspects from the time they arrived in Dubai until they departed.
It is now known the the French, Irish, German and British passports were all fraudulently obtained. The Governments of these countries are now seeking answers. So far, Israel has neither confired nor denied any involvement.

Will more bankers turn to bodyguards for protection?
The Huffington Post carries the story of a bomb expolding at the offices of JP Morgan Chase in Central Athens, Greece today.
The story makes no mention of who may have claimed responsibility for the bomb, but it does mention that a warning was called in prior to the explosion. There doesn't appear to have been any injuries.
This is the last thing that Greece needs right now when the world attention is focused on them as their economy is set to crash. With all of the banking crisis seen in the U.S. this past year or two, one wonders if American Bankers will start to take a closer look at their personal security.
Thebulletproofblog will closely watch the industry in the coming weeks and months and will report any trend that may appear to take shape.

Senior Hamas official assassinated in Dubai
When I would try and discuss security concerns with residents of the U.A.E., I would often hear; "there is no place safer, nothing ever happens here".
Hamas will not be voicing those same sentiments after a senior Hamas offical was assassinated in Dubai last month.
Dubai authorities believe that there were 11 members of the assassination team. They travelled on a mixture of EU Passprts; British, Irish, German and French. Hamas has accused Mossad Intelligence Agency for the death of Mahmud al-Mabhouth on 1/20.10.
It would seem that Dubai's Police Chief,General Tamim, is not one of the "nothing-bad-ever-happens-in-Dubai" believers. He was quoted as saying; "Hamas didn't tell us who he was. He was walking around alone. If he was such an important leader, why didn't he have people escorting him?"
Why indeed General.

24 Irish Bishops to be questioned by the Pope over child abuse.
Pope Benedict began questioning the Bishops of Ireland today over child abuse which is widely believed to have been taking place for more than a half century.
Last year, investigators in Dublin found evidence that confidential files had been kept on more than 100 Parish Priests suspected of sexually abusing children going back as far as 1940.
It will be very difficult for the Bishops to argue that they knew nothing
of the abuse when the files were locked in the ArchBishop of Dublin's private vault. The Catholic Church has been accused of burying its head in the sand where child abuse is concerned and for moving priests believed to be involved in sexual child abuse out of the public view.
The current period under review are the years 1975 to 2004. If the Catholic Church is to regain credibility they will flush out those responsible and have them stand trial and face the same punishment handed out to other perverts and deviants. Wearing a Roman collar shouldn't be seen as a "get out of jail free" card.
While they are at it, they need to adequately compensate the victims whose lives have been ruined by these selfish men. Representatives of the current victims are seeking $1.37 Billion dollars in damages.

AirTran Airways charging extra for fat suitcases
It seems that there is no end to the way in which airlines will find to charge us to help their bottom line.
I was checking my bag on AirTran Airways this morning at Dulles airport when the ticket clerk told me that my bag looked too wide and he would have to measure it. He told me that if it was not in compliance, there would be a $49 surcharge.
Mind you, I had already paid $15.00 for the suitcase when I checked-in online the night before. Fortunately, my suitcase has zippers all around it and I was able to zip it up to slenderize it.
As I stood there watching the clerk record the dimensions of my case with a tape measure, I could only hope that my week's worth of clothes was not going to force me to pull out my credit card.
We are constantly being told by airlines that they have to charge more due to the high cost of fuel. We've had to put up with foodless flights, charging for pillows, weighing bags and now measuring the width of a bag. What is next, a color surcharge?
The days of stuffing a case to fit everything in appear to be gone. Unless you don't mind paying extra. In any case, you'd better not leave home without your credit card. You never know what you'll be asked to pay extra for these days.
